Wow! It's been a year already since we left our home of over 40 years in St.Peter to move to Mankato. We definitely miss our old neighborhood (The Food Co-Op, The Woolen Mill, Mike's Stuff-just to name a few) but we have many new and wonderful neighbors that we are enjoying working with (The Little Red Shed, Pieces Boutique and Sticks and Stones to name a few). We are still loving our new surroundings complete with a nice big class area, lounge and library area plus a coffee counter complete with sink for entertaining. And entertain we have! Many of you have enjoyed our themed stitch nights. We have shown some concerts, some movies, celebrated food and drink from Mexico and Hawaii, mixed with a lot of laughter and yarn. Melissa and I have many more ideas up our sleeves so stay tuned. You'll want to put Sept. 18th on your calendars now. We will be part of the "Girls Night Out on Riverfront" event that's coming up. It should be quite an amazing night out on the town. You won't want to miss it! Check our website soon for more details. www.maryluesyarn.com We're very excited about the coming fall and winter season. Lots of new classes, yarns, accessories and fun to come. We hope you'll be a part of it.
New Fall Yarns 2008
New yarns are already starting to grace our shelves. We're very excited about "Poems" from Wisdom yarns. A soft worsted weight wool that subtly moves through color variations and is soft and airy enough to have you visualizing full sweaters and at a price that's affordable to make a full sweater.
Another wool we're looking forward to is part of the Debbie Bliss collection called "Rialto". It's a merino aran weight "washable" wool with the signature spin that she is known for in her Cashmerino line. The one big difference is that it doesn't look like its going to pill at all and is just as soft. We are expecting 12 colors to arrive approximately September 10th. We will keep you posted.
New from Brown Sheep this fall is a worsted weight called "Lanaloft". It has the same one ply look as Lamb's Pride but without the mohair. We were attracted to the heather-toned multicolors. Very pretty! We also had a lot of requests for a "feltable" sport weight yarn for small projects such as animals, toys and ornaments. So we will be adding Brown Sheep's "Naturespun Sport" to our line up of wools.
Teva Durham, author of the fabulous Loop-de-Loop books has developed her own line of yarns distributed through Tahki Stacy Charles. We have picked up one called "Tundra" a super thick and soft wool that we saw made into a stunning coat. Look for this one also in early September.
Lace knitting is still really strong, so we've added a couple more to add variety to our lace offerings. "MerinoLace" from Skacel comes to us in a huge hank (1375 yds) of luscious soft 100% merino wool. From Isager, a thin "handspun" look lace weight wool in gorgeous earthy colors, 665 yds per 100gr.skein. These two yarns plus an "Alpaca" lace weight from Plymouth coming in October, will compliment the Schaefer "Anne" yarn and Filatura di Grossa's cashmere and silk "Superior" that was such a hit last year. So if lace is your thing or you are thinking of trying it, we think you'll find your yarn fix in a least one of these.
We haven't left our sock knitters out this fall. You'll be seeing new sock yarns from "Opal", new "Trekking" colors, "Happy Feet" from Plymouth and the new "Unravel-as-you-knit" sock yarn. You will have to see it to believe it!
I hope you'll be as pleased and excited to work with some of these new yarns as we are.
Needlefelting Just Keeps Growing
New products and books in Needlefelting just keep coming. Clover has come out with molds for duplicating shapes exactly every time and a special pen style tool for more intricate work. We've also found many new books and kits on making animals and figurines. You'll see a whole new line of roving in beautiful heather tones coming in September for spinning or Needlefelting. I think we've just scratched (or punched) the surface of this form of felting. Our next Needlefelting workshop is Sept. 13th if you'd like to try your hand a this technique.
"Noni" Patterns Turn Classic
It would seem that Noni has changed her focus from her signature over-the-top floral felted bags for more classic shaped and solid colored purses. This next generation of patterns from her is very exciting and possibly more appealing to those who are looking for something really new in felted bags. We'll also be carrying the handles they recommend to complete the look. If you can't wait to check them out click here .
